Now that flights to Cuba have been operating for a couple of months a little shake out may be occurring. In the last 2 weeks United Airline just started their Newark to Havana flight and their Saturday only direct Houston to Havana flights. At the same time American Airlines announced cut back of 3 or their 13 Cuba flights.
The tour operators are having a difficult time booking hotel rooms. Prices on these government controlled hotel rooms have doubled in the last year and are getting tougher to book. There are still lots of available/cheaper accommodations available but tour operators prefer to keep all their clients in big luxury hotels. There are still a lot of boutique and historical hotels available. A more and more popular option though, especially for those traveling on their own is a casa particular. These rooms in private homes are the most authentic way to participate in Cuban life.
